Water Kiosk

In order for the water project to be sustainable, funds must be available to pay for on-going maintenance and repair of the system.  This is accomplished by creating a water kiosk at each community distribution site where a tap attendant collects a small fee (2 or 3 cents) from users.  This provides an entrepreneurial opportunity for a “neighborhood”, and promotes a sense of dignity, ownership and self-sufficiency. The Ilchamus Community Development Organization maintains the water receipts in a designated savings account, while community development staff from Water Mission train villagers on the method and value of building resilience through savings.
